What's Your Theme Song?
Lauren over at Shooting Star Mag ran a very cool contest to win an arc of Shrinking Violet. Entrants were asked to pick a song that they thought would represent a shy girl. The main character in Shrinking Violet, Tere, is painfully shy and has to overcome her fears and deal with the bullies in her life to reach her dream of being a DJ. Over sixty people entered and I listened to each and every one of the songs. The grand prize winner was India. Arie's Beautiful Flower, chosen by blogger Alyce. There were also two runner-ups. You can check everything out here: http://shootingstarsmag.blogspot.com/2009/03/shrinking-violet-winners.html.
I really enjoyed listening to all the different types of songs and was introduced to some new artists as well as rediscovered some old favorites. So it got me thinking that every book needs a theme song. For my next book, Indigo Blues (Flux, Fall 2010), I listened to the song, Pictures of You by The Cure a lot while writing so that is my theme song for that book.
So now I want to know, what is your book's theme song? Or better yet, what it your own personal theme song?

Oh, I love questions like this. Anything having to do with music. For AdiĆ³s, the theme song for that was Jason Mraz's "Bella Luna." For Accent, it was "Don't Dream it's Over" by Crowded House.
My own personal theme song, though, is Sting's "Shape of My Heart." *le sigh*
I love India. Arie so I'll have to check the winner out!
I am in the middle of a ya novel called Watergirl and I have a feeling it will have an entire soundtrack by the time I finish! But the theme song at the moment would definitely be Kate Voegele's You Can't Break a Broken Heart...and the song at the main scene in the story is Linkin Park's By Myself. Random, I know, but I promise it fits! :)
For me, my theme song is "Lost in the Supermarket" by The Clash. I love that song... :)
I love these questions too! For IWBYJR, it was of course the song "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone" by Sleater-Kinney and also "Don't Take Me For Granted" by Social Distortion.
Ballads of Suburbia is harder. Each character kind of has their own theme song which you will see clearly in the book.
My theme song? Hmmm. I don't know if I could limit myself down to just one.... It totally depends on my mood. Gotta say I relate to Paperback Writer by the Beatles tho :)
What an incredibly cool idea!!!
Wow, I'm totally loving all your song choices...Jason Mraz, Linkin Park, Sting, The Clash, Social Distorion... I think I need to make these selections a playlist. And I agree Steph, it is hard to choose just one personal theme song, so I'm still thinking of my own.
